Attitude
We usually have our FHE on Sunday evenings, rather than Monday evenings. It just works better for us. We had a little lesson on having a good Attitude. Let's face it, we all grumble and complain about things, probably everyday. Sometimes, it just gets a little old, to do and listen to. So, we are a playing a game this week. Since Nolan loves to liken the scriptures to our life today, we talked about how Nephi was a good example in the Book Of Mormon, of someone who had a good attitude. Laman and Lemuel, on the other hand, were quite the opposite. Sometimes, as a parent, it's hard to want to ask your child to do a certain thing, or correct this homework problem, etc. because you have a feeling it'll result in complaining and grumbling. Don't know about you, but sometimes, I just don't want to hear it, so I decide not to say anything at all. Now, I must say, I'm pretty lucky. Nolan has always been my buddy and loves to help me with about any job I need him to do. I think our biggest grumbling happens during homework. He hates it when I ask him to redo ANYTHING! :P Sometimes, I grumble more than he does. I don't like my boy being gone all day and then have to come home and do homework for another hour and a half. We just want to play! Oh well, it doesn't always take that long, but it sure feels like it sometimes. Anyways, the game is this. So throughout the day, if I noticed something being done without complaining, I could say, "Oh, good job, Nephi!" Nolan would give me the biggest smile! He loved it! You could also mention something about Laman or Lemuel, if you noticed grumbling involved. Or, you could ask, "Hey, where did Nephi go? Has anybody seen Nephi?" I also found it works great as I'm asking for something to be done. Such as, "Oh, Nephi, would you mind helping your little sister clean up her toys!" It's, amazing how fast the job gets done! I could see Nolan's mind at work, imagining how Nephi would act if he was asked to do a certain task. Annika, is still a little young to understand, but even by evening when she was calling Nolan in for dinner, she said, "Neepheee, dina!" :) It was kind of a fun game to try and I noticed a huge difference. Then again, we will have to try it again tomorrow, when Nolan has homework. That'll be the test for sure!
