Today was a much better day! We celebrated the holiday by spending the day in San Francisco. We went to the zoo and visited the ocean. It was kind of a quick trip since we had to be back in time for Adam to go to the old mans, but so much fun to spend time together with family! There are many pictures I'll need to get on here soon! Traffic was great on the way there and back so we made pretty good time.
Look what we found in our garden when we got home...our first strawberry! Yay! I cut it up into 4 pieces and we each got a little taste! It was so sweet and yummy! I couldn't decide which picture I liked best, I love all the expressions on Nolan's face, so I just put them all on here. :)

Pain
Today was a sad day. We got to church. I happened to be sitting in the back with the kids instead of in the front passenger side. When Nolan got out, he shut the door on his finger. I of course just HAD to be on the opposite side of the car. I don't know at what point Adam realized it, but he was fightin tryin to get the door open which was locked. Luckily it hadn't happened on my side because on the way to church we couldn't get the back door where I sat opened without reaching inside to use the handle. It was dumb, something is messed up. Anyways, so FINALLY we got the silly door opened and Nolan starts screaming even louder, "BAND-AID, BAND-AID, BAND-AID..." So, luckily we happen to carry a first aid kit in the trunk and quickly got him a band-aid. It actually wasn't bleeding too bad, much to my relief. It just looked a little blue. :P We'll see if he looses his nail. Well, Nolan does not handle pain well at all and I knew I'd need to sit outside with him for a while till he calmed down, so Adam took Annika in. We sat in the car for about 15 minutes and Nolan was just getting worse. He seemed to be going into shock a little bit. I decided I needed to just take him home and have him rest. I gave him a little medicine to help with the pain and he slept until we went to go pick up Adam and Annika. He felt much better when he woke up and actually hasn't complained even once about it hurting. Poor guy. I hate to see anyone hurt, but especially my own kids. I just wish it could be me instead. Since Nolan seemed to be feeling better I just talked to him a little about how sometimes in life we are given trials or times in our life when we feel pain, but it's to help us become stronger. The pain we go through in this life is just a smidgen of what Jesus Christ went through. He went through it all, and suffered more than we can even comprehend. He did it because he loves us and made it possible for us to return to live with him and Heavenly Father again if we keep the commandments. It seems a little sad to say, but I hope the worst pain we would ever need to experience would be our fingers shut in a door, but most likely, we won't get off the hook that easily. BUT, I know we won't be given any trial that we can't handle. AND we are not alone. All we need to do is pray. Prayer really does work! Anyways, I didn't quite go into this much detail with Nolan, but he seemed to feel pretty good that he was becoming stronger even though his finger was hurt. Nolan doesn't seem to get hurt more than a scraped knee very often, so when he's in pain, things are pretty dramatic. :P He's ok now though.

Limo Ride!
Nolan went on his limo ride today! I thought it would be fun to take a video to remember it by. I love how he pauses for a few seconds as he steps foot in the limo. The limo took them to Round Table Pizza, where Nolan ordered a pepperoni pizza and lemonade. Before he left he came up to me with a worried look saying, "Mom, they said we were going to have soda." Well, I can probably count the times on one hand that Nolan has tried soda. We don't ever buy it and Nolan doesn't even like it in a root beer float. For some reason though he thought it was actually a bad drink we just don't drink, like coffee, etc. So, he was worried about that. I told him, no, it's just not very healthy for you and you should drink it sparingly. I think he was still a little confused, but was proud of him for letting me know of his concern. I told him he could choose water if he wanted. But, I guess he chose lemonade just like his friend Megan.
P.S. Yes the baby crying in the background is Annika. She's been crying allllll day!
P.P.S Nolan made sure to tell his class, not even his Grandma has been on a limo ride! :)

News
Well, the decision has been made! Nolan will be starting 1st grade in the fall! Adam and I met with his teacher today to talk about our options. I've mentioned before how his teacher has suggested giving Nolan another year in kindergarten, mainly to give him time to grow a little. Since that last parent teacher conference, I was curious to see how much Nolan would grow from then to now. So, I measured him then and measured him now. He's grown 1 inch. :) Nolan is not a fast grower, I've always known that. The chances are pretty good that he would be smaller than the kindergarteners next year as well. So, we didn't want him to be self-conscious about his height and be what held him back.
Mrs. Pitzer broke up the developmental stages into, physical, emotional, social, and cognitive. Obviously, physically Nolan is behind. He's a small kid, but Adam said, quite bluntly, that's not why we are going to hold him back. :) We are working with him on building up his fine motor skills, which will just take time. Also, she mentioned his slower walking. For some reason, she wasn't aware that Nolan is missing a toe, and that kinda slows him down a little. He kinda walks with a waddle, if you really pay attention. :) Once we told her that, she seemed to drop that concern. Next, emotionally, Nolan is doing ok. He is the youngest boy in his class and the youngest girl is one day younger than him. So, obviously he's going to have some less mature behaviors than the others. If Nolan gets hurt, he gets really upset and wants a band-aid, go to the office, take a nap, see his mama, etc. Other than that, he's fine. :) Socially, Nolan is doing great. He's a good friend, works well with others, but at the same time works well independently. His teacher said that he has a strong sense of what's right and wrong. When someone is doing something wrong, he tells the teacher and has a "plan of action." Well, that shows his strong leadership skills, which is good, but is actually the teacher's job. He is a natural leader and she said there is no doubt that if we held him back, he would be the leader of the class. We were afraid, that might actually get him in trouble, if as it is he's already telling the teacher what to do. :P Keeping him one of the younger kids, would hopefully keep him from being too bossy. :) Cognitively, Nolan is doing excellent. He's one of the best readers in his class, smart, and is a quick learner. She said if we were to hold him back, he would for sure need to be in the other kindergarten class, where the teacher is more advanced. That teacher taught 1st grade for 18 years or so and basically teaches kindergarten like a 1st grade class. We were still concerned though that the information would be repetitive and Nolan would get bored. Nolan LOVES to learn right now and we don't want him to lose that because he was held back and not given enough of a challenge. We're afraid that if he gets bored, he'll be more relaxed and maybe goof off, get in trouble, etc. Also, if he thinks he can do all that again in kindergarten, he might carry that on with him in future years. Along with all this, we were worried about his self-esteem going down because of getting teased or whatever for being held back. He's got quite a high self-esteem now for a young fellow and I'd hate to see that change. So, after we talked, I think we all felt pretty good about moving Nolan ahead with his class. He's got a lot of support outside of school as well, and I'm sure he'll be just fine.
Another bit of good news: Nolan is 1 out of 2 kids in his class who reached the goal of reading 15,000 pages or more this year! Whew, that was a lot of books, not to mention a lot of library fines. :P Anyways, we're proud of him! Nolan gets to have a limo ride to Round Table Pizza coming up soon! :) I don't even think I've been on a limo ride...

Build And Grow
I took Nolan to the Build And Grow clinic that they had Lowe's today. He made a Heart Flower Vase for Mother's Day. He did a great job! Such a fun activity for kids! Plus, it's free! We'll definitely do more. They have them at Home Depot also. I asked him who he'd like to give his gift to. He said, "Aunt Jeanna, since she has a baby in her tummy, she's a Mommy now!" So, that is exactly what he did!

Question
Ok, you bread makers. I have a question. For the last few times I've made bread, when I pull it out, it's sunken down. Why? It tastes great and I'm not opening and shutting the oven door throughout the process, so why does it sink down? The bread is nice and fluffy and the dough rises great, but than it sinks to about the bread pan level. Is it because I'm mixing it too long in my bausche? I just mix it for 6 minutes like the directions say. It didn't use to do this, so I'm lost...
